Neighbors.....

We have wonderful neighbors. No they do not live next door. On couple is about 4 miles down the road and the others are around 10 as the crow flies, and if you want to drive they would make it about 15. And I can't forget The Griff who is right up the road at around 7ish miles. Yep we are blessed to have good neighbors.

I have some sad news regarding one of our neighbors. The ones back to the east of us. They live on the same ranch we do and are fellow Texans as well. They moved back in there to Vest camp about 9 years ago and they are more like family then neighbors. Please pray for them. Shirley has been flown to Albuquerque and is more then likely looking at open heart surgery in the next few days. They are scared and worried. The doctors will do more testing today but she has very significant blockage. She is a tough crusty ole bird, and we all call her Granny...and no I don't think she would be offended by my description of her. She and Stanly have helped us out more then once. If we had a family emergency and we have had several in the last 6/7 years all we had to do was call. They know where we keep the house key. We would come home to happy well fed dogs, content chickens, and a garden that was picked if it happened to be in the summer. Shirley would always wash my eggs and out them away for me. Stan has rescued DH in times of distress, broken down rigs, stuck rigs etc. And likewise DH has done the same for him. He even transported him to the ER when he got bucked off on his head a couple of years ago. They have been good neighbors.

We have seen them through problems with their kids, and grand kids. And Shirley's breast cancer 6 years ago. That hit them like a ton of bricks. She came over on day and asked if I would cut all her hair off. She was doing chemo and said she was tired of finding it all over the house. So I did. I gave her a burr in my kitchen,and we decided that it looked very stylish. :) Those were all things we could do that made us feel like we were helping in someway to ease the burden. And they in return have helped to ease ours. That's what neighbors do.

We are called to love our neighbor. It isn't a suggestion. The greatest commandment is Love. Jesus tells us in John 15-12 " This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 " Greater love has no one then this, than to lay down ones life for his friends." I think we forget this. We are a society wrapped up in "me". It's all about my wants, my needs, my feelings. We are obsessed with ourselves. I challenge you all to do something for someone this next week...something you would not do normally. It doesn't have to be a big thing. A phone call, a note, helping someone out. I believe if we are obedient in the small things then the Lord will give us bigger things. And if you are doing it with a Christlike heart there really are no small things.

Please lift up Shirley and Stanly and their children as they travel.

I will be away for a few days. DH and I are taking a small trip for our Anniversary/my birthday/Valentines days gift to each other. He has hit a slower pace this month. Not slow but slower and we have to take advantage of it..so we have made some plans. Oldest DS is coming out to hold down the place and keep an eye on that wild DD of mine..ha...And youngest DS will be spending the weekend with RanchGirl and her hubby...who my youngest thinks hung the moon. He already has his bag packed, along with his new 22 they are going to shot all kinds of cans. And hopefully RanchGirl will have a partner to go see the Hotel for Dogs movie that seemly no one else wants to go see with her.
