Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you all. I hope your day has been blessed.
What a Christmas day we have had.
We started out the day with Nathan and Sara coming to awaken us by jumping on our bed. Yes I said Sara, my 16 year old Sara.
Anyway sleep was forgotten and we commenced to open presents. I think everybody was pretty pleased with what Santa brought.
About 7:30 here came Jen and John. They opened their presents, and then we ate breakfast. After breakfast Jen discovered that she had forgotten part of the food she was supposed to bring. Taylor and John took off to the other side of the ranch to retrieve it.
An hour later they were back and it was time to eat. We always have Mexican food on Christmas. No turkey for this bunch.
As we were eating the dogs started to cut lose. Buck said well look at that. We all looked out the kitchen door, and there running down our road was a young man. We thought at first it was Joshua, but the closer he got we knew it wasn't. All of a sudden it hit me. There has been a wreck up on the highway.
Sure enough that is what happened. He was driving, I will be surprised if he had a permit. But anyway he was driving. He wasn't paying attention, and he ran off the road. He over corrected, and the car flipped. It landed upside down and his mom was trapped by her legs underneath the car. He jacked it up, and pulled her out. His cell wouldn't work so he ran 3/4's of a mile to our house.
Buck was trying to call 911, what a joke they almost never got a transfer to where we are. In the mean time Taylor, John and I went down to help her. We got there and she was coherent, kinda in the car, and kinda out. We didn't move her, just tried to keep her calm. Finally the state police showed up and then the EMTS. They loaded her and went to Roswell. I hope she was OK. I think her leg was broken, and possibly her pelvis. But she was very lucky to have even been alive. John and Taylor said they thought the car had flipped at least 100 feet, and part of that looked airborn. It was awful. The kid wasn't hurt, except for some road rash on his hand, and a small cut on his head. That is the kind of excitement that I can do without.
On a brighter note. Sara turned 16 today. The night she was born a panhandle blizzard was blowing. Buck and I left the house for the hour drive to Perryton Texas. The wind was howling, and the snow was blowing. It blew all night and into the next day. Sara made her arrival at 3:00 PM on Christmas afternoon. My mother all but delivered her. The doctor walked in and pretty much just caught her. Mama had driven in from Amarillo earlier that morning. I was pretty glad to see her, and I think that Buck was really glad to see her.
It is hard to believe that Sara is 16. I remember her being just a little thing riding this old paint horse that we had bought for Jen when she was little. He wouldn't mind worth a hoot, and he was giving her fits. She wanted to go ride, he wanted to stay at the barn. Buck had this flyswatter in the barn and he handed it to her, and told her to whip his butt. She reared back and let him have it. He left the barn. I think she was about 3 and all she had to do after that was just carry the flyswatter. If he acted ugly she would light into him again. When asked why she did it she always answered, "well because he beserved it." She and that old pony made alot of tracks.
When she finally outgrew old paint we needed another horse for her. We didn't have much money to spend. Sara decided she would pray for a new horse. She prayed for a year and one day low and behold an old trader man we knew came driving up with a huge gray horse in his trailer. He thought we might be needing a horse. We took Sara out and had her ride him and she said he was the one. Casper is about 17 hands tall. She was around 10. He was, and still is the hardest thing to bridle that we have ever had. But Sara trained on him. And finally she could bridle him. She is still to this day the only one that doesn't have to fight him over the bridle. She used to climb up his front let to get on. Once on, off they went. Casper, has shown his stuff at the county horse show numerous times, and helped her earn a buckle or two, for reserve champion.
Now Casper has been semi-retired and she has a little red dun named Pecos. She thinks that Pecos is pretty awesome. But she hates to hurt Caspers feelings, so she doesn't let him know.
Like I said it is hard to believe that 16 years have passed so quickly. In my mind I still see a little girl with a big grin on her face, and a flyswatter in her hand, giving her horse the what for because, " he beserved it."
Happy 16th Sara!!!
Love,
Your Mama

All of us kids seem to grow up too fast and we notice it only after the fact. It is sad. Casper is a fine horse to ride. He can be a chore to catch though. That is just my amature experience talking. You have a great day.
