Ponderings......

Hello fellow bloggers. I wanted to blog today, but alas my brain seems to be in shutdown mode. So I am blogging my newsletter for our Cowboy Church Fellowship...sorry for those of you that just received the newsletter in your inbox! For you this is a re-run. But oh well..maybe later I will have a brain storm. I really think that I am in deep dark depression due to the fact that it was supposed to rain today, and so far it has not. You could smell it on the air this morning, that at least was a blessing...just to smell it. Kinda forgot how it smelled so that was nice. Anyway here goes.

The other day I was watching a mama cow and her new calf. She was so proud of her little darln'. She just mooed really low, licking him on the head, and just generally adoring him. He knew how much he was loved and just stood there taking it all in. As they walked off he trotted right up beside her. He never wavered, never tried to walk away. He just got right in her flank and off they went.

Now this little calf was not very old, but he knew where the safe place in his world was, and that was by the side of his mama. As long as he was by his mothers side she would protect him. A mama cow will risk life and limb to protect her baby from a coyote. If you have ever seen a cow on the peck you will know what I am talking about. They can get pretty serious about protecting their babies.

This got me to pondering. If we stayed as close to the Lord as that little calf stayed with him mama, how much better off we would be. If we just kept walking by His side instead of going off on our own, trying to do things for ourselves, trying to forge our own way through life, we would save ourselves a whole lot of grief.

Unfortunately, much of the time we are not as smart as that new born calf. We wander out of the protective care of our Father, and then wonder why our world comes crashing down. When those times come, we tend to blame everyone but ourselves. We even blame God. As humans we don't want to abide by the rules. Rules that have been made to protect us. We bow our neck, take the bit in out mouths and go. Pulling against the restraining hand of the Holy Spirit.

How much better it would be if we heeded His promptings. How much better it would be if we walked by our Lord's side, getting right in His flank and going on beside Him, instead of going our own way. Letting Him protect us and care for us. That is His desire. We need to understand, not only do we battle against our own flesh. We battle as enemy that hates us, an enemy that wants us to fall. In First Peter 5 vs 8 it says this..." Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." (nasb) Those are very strong words. We do have a protector. His name is Jesus. He loves us and wants us to always seek Him, honor Him, obey Him, and walk by His side.

God Bless and Happy Trails
